The field of journalism has changed dramatically. The Center for Media Innovation, or CMI, at Point Park University works with aspiring and experienced journalists to prepare them for these new dynamics. In 2020, the CMI launched the Pittsburgh Media Partnership to bolster independent media in the region. This network of 21 independent local news outlets represents legacy and digital media. In 2022, an opportunity arose downtown to co-create the Pittsburgh Downtown Media Hub, a shared office space designed specifically to foster collaboration. This 18-month pilot program is now testing how co-location and joint programming can strengthen local media activities. In addition, the city will benefit when more people come downtown to work and learn together in the Media Hub.
